I begin my observations with a general thought of behavioral managment. However, as time has gone on I decided to look specifically at positive enforcment. I fell like in my class I truly dont have alot of behavioral problems. Most of my classroom managment time is spent telling students to quit talking or to pay attention. So I began to brainstorm ways in which I could take the focus off of the students not doing what they should be doing, and put the focus on those who were doing right. So I decided to make what I call “Math Tickets” I started off the new semester using these math tickets. Students were able to recieve a math ticket for correct behavior, or participating during disscussion, and especially for being on task during my bell ringers. I then allow the students to buy different things with tickets that they earn. (I know that it sounds very grade school, but it is working rather well) It was remarkable to me (at least the first week) of how much this changed students behaviors. Instead of asking students to quit talking and to pay attention I gave out coupons to those who were doing what needed to be done, and made sure to verbally express that. Students who never go a day without me asking them not to talk did what they were supposed to do and stayed on task. I am very excited to see how this strategy works over the course of the year. So far I am very pleased with how students are responding to the Math Tickets.
