#10 - Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson
I heard the author speak at the TLA Conference a few years ago after I read Speak. She’s a powerful author who communicates with Young Adults in an exceptional way. I always know that her books are going to be page-turners and that students will like them.
Ashley Hannigan is not exactly against Prom, but it’s not her favorite event of the year. She has enough to do to keep caught up with her work and her detentions and staying off the assistant principal’s radar. But, when all the money for Prom is stolen by the senior class sponsor, Ashley’s best friend Natalia becomes head of the Prom committee and needs Ashley’s help to pull it off. Before you think this is all about Prom and nothing else, this book has quite a bit of depth. Ashley learns about herself, her family, her friends, authority, and the elderly and becomes a better person because of it.
Read Prom. Laurie Halse Anderson does not disappoint.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
November 28th, 2011 at 12:41 pm
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

I honestly don’t know what the hell it is supposed to mean. I guess I have been out of the elitist jazz world for a very long time. Where I am working now, it is all about whether the audience was entertained and if they paid. I read it twice, and it almost seems like a fortune you would find on the Sunday horoscope page. Is “Radio Smooth” a good thing? How does it differ from a “smooth sheen” (which I gather is bad?)? “A fuller spectrum with tarter heights?” I honestly have no idea what Mr. Bartlett is talking about. I wish he had just used words I could understand like, “it was in the pocket and really swinging…” or “tits up with a Jelly Roll suck..”

cfbleachers nailed it for me. He coalesced Simon’s larger or is it secondary point about the entire information dirt road. .The larger lesson, beyond MMGW, is that information coming from our government should be taken with enough skepticism so as to render it to insignificance. This is a libertarian’s wet dream.

Thanks for posting. As the lenses become more numerous we will see the ranking fluctuate as newer more popular themes and topics come and go. My feeling is that having a few incoming links will help with the overall Google and Yahoo rankings which may be a factor in the Squidoo ranking formula. It makes sens that the same things that determine search rankings in the search engines will also be the things that affect rankings on Squidoo.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
February 5th, 2012 at 5:26 am
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
February 5th, 2012 at 6:30 am
Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
February 5th, 2012 at 5:20 pm
yea, im midnight black so im not swimming ..
February 5th, 2012 at 5:34 pm
That awkward moment when there’s nothing good watch in Pay Per View. :/
February 5th, 2012 at 10:44 pm
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

February 7th, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Now i am happy for your service and then pray you realize what a great job that you’re carrying out educating people today via your webpage. I am sure you haven’t encountered all of us.
February 8th, 2012 at 8:14 pm
Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

March 26th, 2012 at 10:27 am

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

April 4th, 2012 at 5:12 pm
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

April 6th, 2012 at 1:16 am
Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

An impressive share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a little analysis on this. And he in fact bought me breakfast because I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If possible, as you become expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It is highly helpful for me. Big thumb up for this blog post!

April 12th, 2012 at 12:03 pm
Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

April 14th, 2012 at 1:03 pm
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I actually thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could fix if you werent too busy looking for attention.

(There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

I precisely had to thank you very much yet again. I do not know the things I would have accomplished in the absence of those techniques provided by you on such a question. This has been the hard case for me, however , observing your specialized approach you managed it took me to jump with contentment. Now i’m happy for this advice and then pray you find out what an amazing job you are doing teaching others through a blog. I am certain you haven’t got to know any of us.

I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.

First and foremost the content features a good substance and it is actually extremely sensible. Second you were outstanding in choosing the best word to use in explaining certain portion with the subject that was difficult to understand. And lastly I felt that I have understood the topic quite well and that makes this weblog about Grand Piano outrageous.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
April 24th, 2012 at 6:20 pm
Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I actually thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could fix if you werent too busy looking for attention.

Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
