Even more enjoyable with a crowd. Been thinking about the direction of the conversation, and the need for ‘technology’ to be part of it. I think you’ll need to come up with a definite technology prompt to start things off, otherwise we’ll be drawn to discuss the other aspects of teaching (e.g. discipline, family structures, diverse responsibilities, etc.) that preoccupy our thoughts. (Misery loves company. Or, at least, is comforted by it.)

Sorry I can’t think of a good technology prompt myself. Anything I could come up with would probably be negative. I’m not a big tech fan, other than my deep appreciation for word processing. And the internet. And satellite TV.

I have no problems with a “technology” topic and welcome any suggestions for prompting.
I heard two people at the end of conversation say that they would use the recording/playback portion of the technology in their room (building) as they liked the concept and ease of use. I heard another (Karen) say that she had already used the recording software with the kids. I heard another say that if the webedit feature became enabled she would use it with her kids and parents (of the kids, not her parents). I was told by another participant that they heard someone wanting to use the concept.
So, if the math works then 33% of the participants said that they would use the technology as was demonstrated yesterday. Assuming that no one else in the group does follow through and those five do (or already are), is that a decent return on your investment so to speak?
I maintain that if you are comfortable using a piece of technology and have access to it you will find ways that it might benefit you in the classroom.

The session was quite enjoyable. It is always hard to predict how an open ended conversation on a broad topic will turn out. There were definite opinions offered. Those who were present could sense the passion and frustration of being in the teaching profession.

Maybe we could start a topic suggestion thread to stir up some ideas. Off hand I can think of a few: Teaching in the digital age, Ideas for teaching with limited technology, Is technology helping or hurting our students ability to think and problem solve? What does technology REALLY look like n the classroom? Those are just a few that popped into my head.

Just my two cents worth :)
